Mealtime for kids can be anything from pleasure to hell, going anywhere between the two extremes. However, what many parents did not have is the fact that food is capable of affecting the temperament and behavior of the little ones.
Recent studies in the field of neuroscience suggest that some meals or foods can influence mood while providing macro and micronutrients. These are the rules to develop the happiness diet for children.
The happiness diet for children, as we could call it, includes foods rich in micronutrients such as some vitamins (A, B12, D, E and folic acid among others) or minerals such as iodine, magnesium, calcium and iron. Also fiber and omega 3 fatty acids can help to achieve the desired goal. The action of ingesting these nutrients manages to interconnect three areas of the brain, one related to mental capacity, another emotional and the last with physical capacity that, together, enable the body to achieve well-being.
The 4 main rules on which the happiness diet for children is based are:
- Reduce the amount of processed and refined foods that you offer to your children, so that the feeding is as natural as possible. The amount of sugar in processed foods is unhealthy, as well as negatively affecting the area of the brain that is responsible for regulating mood swings. Also, excess sugar overstimulates the brain - causing the child to go through moments of hyperactivity - and creates dependence, so that later it can go through a withdrawal syndrome, with the drastic changes in mood that this entails.
- Offer more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. The micronutrient content of fruits and vegetables is high. Including a great variety of these foods we get a wide range of vitamins, especially water-soluble vitamins, and minerals, crucial for this diet. Whole grains contain higher amounts of vitamins and minerals than their refined counterparts, making them more desirable on this diet as well.
- As far as possible, the meat must be of organic origin - organic livestock -, since the food they receive results in a more favorable fat and protein composition. In addition, the content of artificial ingredients (chemical derivatives that they may contain) is limited, following the line of a diet that is as natural as possible.
- Includes fish frequently, since its content in omega 3 fatty acids is high. The function of these fatty acids in the brain is vital, facilitating the necessary connections - and creating new connections - to achieve the desired state of well-being.
The happiness diet is an option that not only has emotional advantages but is also healthy and natural.
